Sometimes I wonder who is really running MySpace. There has been a lot of press lately regarding the hack of Alicia Keys MySpace band page. Chris Boyd of Vitalsecurity, should be credited for bringing that to the mainstream press. More info on this can be found at PC World.

The issue I have with MySpace is why nothing is being done about the surge of Spam and ID theft taking place with little or no concern from customer support.

There are 209,686,826+ users on ,MySpace. When someone joins they will find Tom and his picture showing as their first friend. Tom is listed as the president of MySpace in his profile and is there to help all users. Now as time goes on users add more friends and comments to their page. I have notice one comment that continues to come up on MySpace pages. This is a copy of the ad found in the comments of Tom's page and can also be found in hundreds of friends pages

Looks good. Has the MySpace logo and a picture of Tom promoting the MySpace Tracker. Wow... just what ya need and it appears to be legit. After all, Tom, the president of MySpace would not be promoting an bogus tool. Well this is where the fun begins. When a user clicks on the ad they are sent to a site sign up and get the " StalkerTrack" code to put on their MySpace Page and it is FREE. What could be better?

What the user does not know is that he or she has just made their page available to a company in China to rack and record their user id to flood MySpace with bogus Spam scams such as "Free Macy's Gift Cards", various Drugs, Cell Phone ring tones, etc. I have tracked all of these so called "deals" back to the same area in China . I believe this has a lot to do with the band sites being hacked. Each time a user leaves a comment on a page that has the "StalkerTrack" software installed they then find themselves a promoter for Spam from China .

The very idea that MySpace would allow such an obvious Scam to continue with the MySpace name and picture of Tom is beyond me. There have been no notices posted warning the membership of this problem and it is running wild on their service. Makes one wonder who really has control of MySpace.

Chris Boyd and a handful of others are the only ones I know of trying to get MySpace to fix the problem. The advice I can give is DO NOT install this software and if found in your comments DELETE the comment. Should the ad show up again from the same friend, and then remove that friend until the problem is fixed. If the person is someone you know it would be nice to send them a message explaining the problem.

Shannon Haley is all of the above and more!!! As a newcomer to Famecast, I'd like to express my sincere appreciation to my friend, Fred Mitchell, for turning me on to this extraordinary website that allows talented, yet unrecognized artists from all around the globe to express their individual talents and develop a fan base.

I want to thank him as well for tellng me about Shannon and showing me her "Black Velvet" video. I don't claim to be a talent scout, but I do know talent when I see it (and hear it). I was absolutely blown away by this young, beautiful & talented country music artist. In a word, she's fantastic!!

As I watched and listened my comments were, "How old is she?" "You gotta be kiddin' me" (when he said "21") & "She's gonna go a long way, we're gonna be hearing her name for a long time to come!"

I have since voted for her daily and I urge everyone to check her out knowing that if they do she will surely have many more votes. I am confident that she will rise in the voting and make it to Austin.

I do have one concern: Why has she been deleted from MySpace? When I try to get to her MySpace page from Famecast a pop-up message says that she has been removed. This is particularly disconcerting since it denies me the opportunity to learn more about this extraordinarily talented individual. I urge whoever can correct this "snafu" to do so immediately.

And on a personal note to Shannon I say: Keep goin', Honey, you will go far!!

Internet radio stations rebuff pigopolists' 'compromise'

Internet radio stations have rejected a compromise proposal from the US music industry on higher music licence payments. It would allow small stations to keep the old fee structure, but stations claim the deal is designed to stunt net radio's growth.

The US Copyright Royalties Board (CRB) will implement higher charges for online radio music licences from 15th July. Net radio stations say that the increases will put them out of business, with retrospective charges for 2006 exceeding stations' total advertising revenue.

A new offer has been made by SoundExchange, a non-profit music industry body that collects royalties on behalf of labels. It has said that it would allow 'small' online radio stations to continue paying the current royalties, but larger stations would have to pay the new amounts.
Internet radio station representative group SaveNetRadio has rejected the plan, saying that the plan is designed to stifle the growth of online radio.

“The proposal made by SoundExchange would throw 'large webcasters' under the bus and end any 'small' webcaster’s hopes of one day becoming big,” SaveNetRadio spokesperson Jake Ward said. “Under Government-set revenue caps, webcasters will invest less, innovate less and promote less. Under this proposal, internet radio would become a lousy long-term business, unable to compete effectively against big broadcast and big satellite radio – artists, webcasters, and listeners be damned.”
The deal would allow stations to pay 10% of their revenue in royalties until they earned $250,000. After that they would pay 12% of revenue, but it is not clear what the upper revenue cap on 'small' stations would be. Beyond that cap, though, stations would move to a per-song payment of 0.08 cents per song per listener for 2006 and 0.11 cents for 2007, rising to 0.19 cents by 2010.
SaveNetRadio said that this kind of charging would put internet radio out of business, and is not what was intended by US lawmakers.

"A standard that would set a royalty rate more than 300% of a webcaster’s revenue was not what Congress had in mind, and it must be adjusted if the industry is going to survive," said a SaveNetRadio statement.

Satellite radio services currently pay just 7.5% of their revenue in royalties, while traditional broadcast radio does not pay anything because labels consider airtime to be promotional.
The Internet Radio Equality Act is currently before the US Congress. This proposed law would set internet radio royalties at the same 7.5% level as satellite rates until 2010.

Dianne Feinstein's "Platform Equality and Remedies for Rights Holders in Music (PERFORM) Act" would permanently hobble your ability to record off the radio and force webcasters to use DRM formats. PERFORM would also mess with streaming Internet radio stations. Right now, MP3 or open format Internet radio can take advantage of statutory copyright licensing to remunerate rights holders and artists. After PERFORM, all streaming music that uses statutory licensing will be required to be in a DRM-encumbered format that forbids interoperability or user-editing. Wave goodbye to MP3 streaming and to moving recorded webcasts to the portable player of your choice.

When searching the net for "Mediacom Sucks" I came upon this site. My beef with Mediacom is with their internet service (or lack thereof) in my area. I have yet to receive the speeds I have been paying for. This has been going on now for several years. After speaking with network techs with Mediacom I have an understanding of the problem and know they are working to fix it. I would switch to another high speed provider, but they are the only game in town..... and they know this! One would think the customer should get a credit on their bill for the limited service being provided. So much for what the customer thinks!! As I was writing this I recieved a call from Mediacom asking if I would like to upgrade to their "internet-Max" package with download speeds "up-to 10,000kbps". The key phrase here is "up-to". When I asked if there was a "not-less than" there was no answer from the sales rep accept to continue to throw the pitch on how much more I would enjoy the higher internet speed. Bit my tounge and said "thank-you, not at this time" and hung up. I have over 1700 internet speed-test in a database on www.testmy.net from Feb 2005 until present day and not one are up to the advertised by Mediacom. I am paying for 5000Kbps down/256Kbps up. Here is the latest...

Have been using Google page creator for my stream page and finding it quite easy to make quick changes on the fly. Noticed that I can modify and combine several gadgets in one frame here on the blog and if they work here I can insert them on my Google page without a problem. Notice the "Now Playing" list along with the media player seen here.
